Good value, solid features

I was looking for something to help with my research without breaking the bank, so I tried out the free trial for SciSpace premium. It was a pretty good deal for what you get. I mostly used the Reference Manager and the Abstract Generator. Both worked well, and it felt like I got good value for the features provided. The annual subscription seemed like the best way to save money long-term, which I appreciated. It's worth it if you're doing a lot of papers.

Helped with my paper!

So, I tried out the Copilot for Reading and it was actually super helpful. It made going through those long research papers way less painful. Like, I could get the main points without feeling totally lost. Definitely made my life easier for this assignment.

Consistent and reliable research aid

I've been a SciSpace user for about two years now, and I just renewed my annual subscription. This time around, I focused heavily on the Data Extraction from PDFs and the AI Chat with Research Papers features. They were as reliable as ever. My previous experience with the Literature Search was excellent, and these newer tools maintain that high standard. It's consistently robust for my research needs, and that's why I keep coming back.

Good for research, some small issues

I used the AI Literature Review and it was pretty effective at identifying key papers for my topic. It saved me a good chunk of time. The interface was mostly intuitive, but I did find the loading times for some of the larger PDF analyses a bit slow. Overall, a solid tool for academic work, just wish it felt a bit snappier on performance.

Comprehensive tool for academics

My recent experience with SciSpace involved utilizing their AI Research Assistant and the PDF Summarizer. The ordering process for the annual premium plan was straightforward on their website; I found the right tier easily. Delivery of access was immediate, as expected for a subscription service. The AI Research Assistant was impressive in its ability to parse complex academic texts and highlight relevant sections, which significantly sped up my literature review. The PDF Summarizer provided concise, accurate summaries, which was a huge time-saver. I also tested the Citation Generator, and it formatted references correctly according to the chosen style. Customer support was responsive when I had a minor query about integrating with my reference manager, providing a clear solution within a few hours. The platform's extensive database is a major plus, making it a robust tool for any serious researcher. The only small improvement I'd suggest is making the 'Journal Finder' a bit more prominent in the navigation.

I'm thinking about the annual subscription for SciSpace, but what if I don't use it as much as I think? Are refunds even possible if I pay for the whole year?

S Sophie 3 months ago
I'm pretty sure they don't do refunds on annual plans. Once you commit, that's kinda it. Best to use the free trial or a monthly plan first if you're unsure.

Nah, they're pretty clear about no refunds for annual billing, afaik. Read their terms carefully before you buy, but I remember seeing that when I signed up.

Hey, thinking about getting SciSpace. Is the student discount actually decent? Or is it like, 5% off which isn't really worth it?

R Ryan Ito 2 months ago
Yeah, it's pretty good. I got mine last semester and it was like 30% off the annual plan, so definitely worth looking into if you're still in school.

I think they usually do around 20-40% for students or if you pay yearly. Not just a tiny bit, it's a real discount.

Is SciSpace good for systematic reviews? Like, can it actually help with screening or data extraction, or is it more for just finding papers?

P Paula P. 2 months ago
They have a 'Systematic Review Tool' listed, so it should be able to help. I've only used it for general literature searches but I know they've been adding more features specifically for that kind of work.

Yeah, it does have tools for that now. I've heard from colleagues it's gotten much better for data extraction from PDFs and organizing things for systematic reviews. Still not perfect, but a big help.

Has anyone used SciSpace AND Elicit? I'm trying to decide between them for my lit review, curious which one is better for actual in-depth analysis.

M Mia 2 months ago
I used Elicit for a bit, then switched to SciSpace. SciSpace's AI chat with papers feels more intuitive for digging into specific sections, especially for detailed stuff. Elicit was okay, but SciSpace just clicked better for me.

It depends what you're doing. SciSpace has a bigger database supposedly and the Copilot is pretty solid. Elicit is good too, but for just summarizing and finding connections, SciSpace might edge it out. Try the free trials for both if you can!

how many papers can you actually read/summarize with the free version? trying to figure out if i need to jump straight to premium.

R Rachel Beaumont 2 months ago
The free version is pretty limited for the AI stuff. You can browse the database and maybe do a few basic things, but for real AI features like summarizing or the copilot, you'll hit a wall fast.

Not many, honestly. It's more of a demo to see the interface. For any serious work, you'd need the premium. I think it's like 5 questions for the AI chat or something tiny.
